ABOUT ME

During a visit in 2013, 4me4you explored SCREAM Gallery, which was featuring the exhibition “I’ve Looked Up to Heaven and Been Down to Hell” by Chris Bracey.

MY PROCESS

Chris Bracey, a British artist and designer with over three decades of experience in neon and light, and the owner of one of the largest collections of neon works outside the United States, presents....

“I’ve Looked Up to Heaven and been Down to Hell”..

  • His creations have illuminated films such as Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and various Batman movies, showcasing his mastery of dramatic, cinematic installations.

  • Many of Bracey’s pieces are self-produced neon works that draw inspiration from popular culture.

  • Among them are phrases like “Shine a Light in the Darkness of Your Soul”, penned by Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, and “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out”, taken from a song by The Smiths.

  • The exhibition also celebrates iconic imagery from tattoo culture, featuring motifs such as “Love & Hate”, scenes from Las Vegas, and snapshots of Soho’s streets.

  • A hallmark of Bracey’s practice is his skill in salvaging old lights, from fairgrounds, film props, and vintage signs, and transforming them into contemporary pop sculptures.

  • These luminous creations evoke wonder, nostalgia, and glamour, inviting viewers to experience familiar symbols in a dazzling, reimagined form.
