DESIGNER: LAURA GERTE

In a visceral and genre-defying display, Laura Gerte delivered one of the most emotionally charged moments of Berlin Fashion Week SS26 with her collection titled “Desire / Chaos.” Presented as more than just a runway show, it became a full-blown sensory experience—a testament to Gerte’s distinct voice in fashion: fiercely feminine, deeply political, and radically sustainable.

Gerte, known for creating transformative garments that emphasize confidence through contradiction, once again brought her unique vision of empowered femininity to life. Her work is never just about clothes—it’s about bodies reclaiming power, dancing with polarity, and redefining beauty on their own terms.

“Desire / Chaos” was an exploration of emotional and physical duality—armour and intimacy, delicacy and defiance, decay and desire. Silhouettes veered between extremes: skin-tight mesh and rigid canvas, raw distressed denim and silk foulards, corsetry-inspired shapes paired with misworn jersey t-shirts. This constant juxtaposition created a tension that felt deeply human—messy, complex, and ultimately liberating.

The garments were built using upcycled, recycled, and deadstock materials, in line with Gerte’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. Her signature details—heavy piping, smocked silk, patchworked prints, and trompe l’oeil illusions—were seamlessly woven into each look, pushing the idea that luxury can, and should, be consciously made.

Textile hybrids formed the core of the collection. One standout moment included a floor-length two-piece fashioned from casual jersey, elevated with precise volume and theatrical flair. Elsewhere, withering flowers affixed to garments symbolised the fleeting nature of beauty and the inevitability of change. These weren’t just design choices—they were statements on impermanence and strength.

Gerte’s fashion speaks in layers—visually, emotionally, politically. With “Desire / Chaos,” she challenges the audience to sit with discomfort, to find beauty in contradiction, and to consider femininity not as a monolith, but as a living, breathing, ever-shifting force.

This was not just a collection; it was a confrontation cloaked in silk, a rebellion stitched in piping, a love letter to complex womanhood. And it confirmed Laura Gerte as one of the boldest and most thoughtful voices shaping the future of Berlin’s fashion scene.
