MY PROCESS

Figurative expression is the primary subject matter for Cliff Warner’s artwork. Some of the paintings intend to represent a sense of solitude.
The subject matter of abstraction is another inspiration for his paintings, of which there is an intention to create a visual composition; that is aesthetically evocative & ambient.
The artwork references varied sources from traditional & expressionist figurative painting to contemporary minimalist abstraction.  The personal creative process stirs emotions & impressions of transient shadows, objects, nature and shapes which are gateways to memories; bringing forth the composition under changing conditions. The paintings are built up piece by piece, seeking compositional and conceptual resonance.
A formal process of rough outline, subtle painted texture & painting layers forms the main body of the compositions.  The work is both oil & mixed media including pastels, conte crayon, ink & spray paint.
