Taus brings a fresh and thought-provoking perspective to fashion, blending historical references with contemporary reflections. As co-founders Freyja Taus and Juho Lehiö explain, “Even though our references for the narrative are from a century ago, similarities can be seen also in today’s society.
We think that fashion is extremely political, and wanted to use our craft and design language to comment on this.”
The collection seamlessly merges elements of power and freedom, from the tailored sharpness of a two-piece suit crafted from vintage 70s furniture fabric, turned inside out, to the flowing, celebratory drapery of upcycled skirts, deadstock jersey, and thrifted velvet scarves. Each piece is a tribute to the queer icons who have paved the way before us, using fashion as a form of rebellion and expression.
Old suit trousers are repurposed and reconstructed, turning traditional wardrobe staples into something new and unexpected, while the removal and restitching of blazer panels create bold, innovative shapes. Fringe plays a dual role, both as a subtle embellishment and as a central element in full garments, allowing for movement and a celebration of the body.
The diverse cast reflects the brand’s inclusive ethos, featuring Taus’s muses, new faces, performance artists, fashion professionals, and members of the trans and queer community, alongside street casted individuals.
