4ME4YOU FEATURES “Nicklas Skovgaard” DURING COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK AW25.
“Thematics”
Nicklas Skovgaard’s Collection 10 draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s 1986 silkscreen print series “Hans Christian Andersen.” This iconic collection, one of Warhol’s final works before his passing, reimagines the famed paper cuttings of Hans Christian Andersen, featuring figures and stories from the beloved Danish author’s 19th-century fairytales. Warhol’s characteristic pop-art style is evident in the prints, with vibrant coloUrs and innovative techniques that breathe new life into Andersen’s timeless tales.
Growing up just 30 minutes from Andersen’s birthplace, Skovgaard has long been captivated by the Danish writer’s fairytales and the artistry of his paper cut-outs. “To me, he somehow represents the essence of being Danish,” says Skovgaard. “When I first encountered Warhol’s silk screen prints, I was struck by the way these paper cutouts were transformed into the world of Warhol. The blend of two iconic artists feels so refreshing — they’re telling a pop art fairytale!”
In this collection, Skovgaard explores fabrications with the same approach used in paper cutting. Techniques like cutting, ripping, and outlining fabrics are employed to create intricate details, bringing the tactile and delicate nature of paper art into textile design.
The Warhol-Andersen connection is further translated into the collection through silhouettes that are both exaggerated and two-dimensional, yet maintain a sense of volume.
The contrast seen in Warhol’s silkscreen prints — a striking interplay of colour and form — is reinterpreted in the collection with bold textile combinations and vibrant hues that echo the playful, surreal essence of the prints.
The result is a unique fusion of artistic worlds, creating a fresh and imaginative take on both Andersen’s fairytales and Warhol’s pop-art vision.
