Bonnetje at Copenhagen Fashion Week 2025
Bonnetje, a Copenhagen-based design duo, continues to challenge conventional fashion norms with their circular approach to tailoring and textile reuse. During Copenhagen Fashion Week 2025, the brand presented their Spring/Summer 2026 collection titled “Breakable,” a deeply introspective exploration of fragility, adaptability, and transformation — both in fabric and in human nature.
Bonnetje is renowned for their practice of deconstructing old suits and reassembling them into innovative, contemporary silhouettes. By cutting, turning, and layering the materials in unexpected ways, they highlight hidden tailoring details such as seams, linings, and pockets, elements that are typically unseen but carry the craftsmanship of traditional menswear. This creative process embodies Bonnetje’s commitment to circularity, giving new life to discarded garments while questioning the fashion industry’s throwaway culture.
The label’s philosophy bridges past, present, and future responsible practices. Rather than seeking to pioneer a radically new style, Bonnetje offers a thoughtful commentary on sustainability, emphasising collaboration across generations and dialogue among peers in shaping a more enduring design culture.
In “Breakable,” Bonnetje draws inspiration from the paradoxical nature of glass — a material that both protects and exposes, conceals and reveals. This metaphor informs the collection’s duality: fragility as a source of strength and vulnerability as a means of resilience. Garments appear delicate yet empowering, with plissé textures, unfinished edges, fringed linings, and layered transparencies that evoke both care and tension.
Some looks wrap the body as if it were a fragile object, while others invite the wearer to play with opacity and exposure — like two overlapping skirts, one opaque and one sheer, symbolising the balance between concealment and openness.
Through “Breakable,” Bonnetje continues to expand their exploration of how clothing can serve as an interface between self and society, reflecting the emotional and environmental complexities of modern life. Their presentation at Copenhagen Fashion Week 2025 reinforced their position as one of Denmark’s most conceptually driven and ethically engaged emerging labels — a testament to how deconstruction can lead not only to aesthetic renewal but also to philosophical depth.
