MY PROCESS
Tamsin Smyth, known by her creative pseudonym tamsy.land, is an Australian multi-disciplinary artist and pattern designer whose artistic journey has been deeply influenced by her fascination with colour and its therapeutic potential.
Her exploration of neuroaesthetics, also known as ‘neuroarts,’ has been a key factor in shaping her practice. Neuroaesthetics focuses on how the mind responds to visual stimuli, such as curiosity, surprise, and wonder—emotions that art can evoke, essential to our mental well-being. Tamsin discovered that colour, with its ability to elicit specific emotional responses, became a powerful tool in her work. This understanding led her to explore how art can serve not only as creative expression but also as a vehicle for personal healing and self-care.
In recent years, Tamsin has expanded her practice by incorporating generative AI into her art-making process, a technique she refers to as ai-deating. This innovative approach allows her to explore new dimensions of self-expression and communication. Through AI, she finds a broader way to connect with her inner world and externalise her artistic vision in unexpected and transformative ways. For Tamsin, AI is not just a tool but a partner in her creative journey, enabling her to push boundaries and explore new ideas.
Her art has always played with the human eye’s perception of colour and form, often incorporating themes of the fragility of human existence, the cosmic expanse, mystical creatures, and the contrasts between light and shadow. She draws upon her intuitive understanding of these themes, creating works that engage deeply with the viewer’s emotions and perceptions. Tamsin believes that the future of art lies in the ethical integration of technology, and she hopes that the art world will increasingly recognise the revolutionary potential of generative AI as an extension of human creativity and vision.
