ABOUT ME

4me4you had the wonderful chance to experience the captivating exhibition at Stolen Space Gallery, presenting the artistry of Scott Listfield.

MY PROCESS

“On our arrival in Vilnius, where by total chance we stumbled onto a large burning wolf. It was a celebration of the fall equinox and the 700th anniversary of the founding of the city, although we didn't know that at the time. We were just walking along the river at sunset, when increasingly large crowds began to appear around us, until it was obvious that there was a gathering of some kind. That's when we saw the wolf. It spoke loudly, in Lithuanian. I don't speak Lithuanian, but that didn't totally matter in the moment. There were people with fire dancing around it and, as the night went on, eventually the wolf was engulfed in flames and smoke and ash poured out across the river and fell onto our faces. It was hard not to feel like I had just witnessed something which stretched back along my roots in these countries to something very primeval.”..... SCOTT LISTFIELD

  • In this collection, Scott embarks on a deeply personal odyssey alongside his brother, tracing the footsteps of their familial roots through the landscapes of Latvia and Lithuania.

  • The Equinox’ serves as a visual narrative of their voyage, a tale woven with threads of exploration and introspection as they journey backwards through time in search of ancestral ties.

  • Scott’s artistic journey began prior to 2001, characterised by whimsical yet poignant paintings infused with his trademark astronaut figure juxtaposed against landscapes rich with contemporary symbolism.

  • Within ‘The Equinox,’ these paintings serve as windows into the past, each depicting a stop along their ancestral pilgrimage.

  • Central to Scott’s narrative is the recurring presence of a wolf, a symbolic guide threading through each canvas in varied forms – sometimes a companion to the astronaut, other times manifesting as a statue, relic, or spectral presence.
  • Through encounters with this enigmatic creature, Scott delves deeper into the layers of connection between past and present, weaving a tapestry of personal and cultural heritage.
