4me4you recently stepped inside the ever-inspiring Stolen Space Gallery to experience “Chromata”, the latest exhibition by renowned artist duo PichiAvo
MY PROCESS
Known for their striking blend of classical art and graffiti, the pair continues to challenge visual conventions with this new body of work — a vibrant exploration of colour, form, and material that bridges past and present.
"Chromata"
Chromata delves into the interplay of contrast, layering, and presence versus absence, presented through painting, sculpture, and installation.
At the heart of the exhibition lies the unveiling of Chromata, a new technique developed by PichiAvo that uses contrast as its core principle.
Drawing from colour theory, the works juxtapose grayscale against bursts of full colour, stripping away visual noise to amplify vibrancy and emotion.
This intentional balance, and sometimes absence of colour recalls how classical sculptures, now seen as pure white marble, were originally adorned in vivid pigments.
By reimagining these forms in their full chromatic splendour, PichiAvo not only pay homage to history but also reinterpret it through a contemporary lens.
Layering and erasure are central to this series: paint is applied, then scratched away, revealing what lies beneath — a metaphor for the resurfacing of histories over time.
Much like the transient walls of street art, Chromata embodies mystery, transformation, and multiplicity, inviting viewers into a space of open reflection and engagement
