ABOUT ME
Mimi Hocke reached out to 4me4you Journal to share her inspiring story and professional journey.
MY PROCESS
My work is profoundly shaped by the fashion industry, where I freelance as a fashion editor. I blend elements from vintage erotic photography, images of models I capture myself, and layer the latest designer collections through digital illustrations on my iPad.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, she grew up surrounded by fashion and advertising, her mother was a model and her father an art director at an advertising agency, giving her early exposure to the creative industries. Although immersed in fashion, Mimi originally aspired to be an illustrator.
Growing up in West Germany during the 70s, she was deeply influenced by the era’s vibrant art, music, and fashion scenes, particularly the figurative and contemporary art movements that were taking shape.
In the late 80s, she moved to London to study Fashion Illustration and Photography at the Epsom School of Art & Design. It was during this time that she gained invaluable experience working with British Vogue and i-D Magazine, which ultimately led her to focus on styling.
Throughout her career, Mimi has collaborated with renowned photographers and contributed to prestigious publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and L’Officiel, in addition to working on high-profile advertising campaigns and commercials.
In 1994, Mimi returned to Germany, where she worked as a stagiaire at Marie Claire and as a fashion assistant at Vogue Germany. She later transitioned to a freelance career and, in 2020, moved to Paris, where she now works as a freelance fashion editor and stylist.
