ABOUT ME

4me4you visits the Gillian Jason Gallery to explore Megan Baker’s evocative exhibition, “This too will be lost, like a kiss blown in the Breeze.”

MY PROCESS

Like the movement of wind itself, Baker’s paintings fluctuate in form, shifting and undulating through layers of impasto. They never fully coalesce or resolve, instead remaining in a constant state of flux, where fragmented and gestural figures are interrupted by the immediacy of paint.

  • Stepping into the gallery space feels like stepping into a quiet storm — a moment where movement and stillness intertwine. Megan Baker’s latest body of work invites viewers into an ephemeral world where paint becomes air, gesture becomes memory, and nothing is fixed for long.

  • Baker’s work is rooted in the subtleties of the natural world, especially the unnoticed, everyday moments that reveal themselves in quiet contemplation.

  • She is particularly drawn to the intangible presence of the wind: how it gathers and disperses, shifting from fierce to tender in an instant. In this, wind becomes a metaphor for the transience of time,  circulating, reminding, consuming,  carrying the whispers of past seasons.

  • It is both a force of change and a soft reminder of stillness, anchoring the self in the present while everything else moves.

  • Through this lens, Baker’s paintings present nature as sanctuary, a place where the fleeting and the eternal meet, and where presence is felt most clearly in the spaces between.
