4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting Gillian Jason Gallery, where artist Jenya Datsko was featured in their latest group showcase.
MY PROCESS
Datsko’s work captures profound moments of loneliness and melancholy, yet these emotions are imbued with a mysterious, almost captivating beauty.
Through a delicate colour palette and the consistent portrayal of female figures in varied spaces, Datsko invites the viewer to contemplate human nature and the intricacies of emotion.
For Datsko, the women depicted in her paintings symbolise strength and determination in their quest to form genuine connections. In their solitude or silence amidst others, these women are freed from external influences, offering them the space to fully explore their identity and purpose.
A recurring motif in Datsko’s work is the presence of flowers, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the fragility of life. The fleeting beauty of flowers embodies both the sadness and joy that coexist in life, as well as the cycle of fragility and renewal. Flowers act as a reminder to savour moments of happiness while they last, knowing that they can be ephemeral, just like the fleeting nature of life itself.
‘I paint women because I consider us to be very emotionally strong – but my subjects represent all kinds of people.’…
