ABOUT ME

4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting Gillian Jason Gallery, where artist Emily Ponsonby was featured in their group showcase.

MY PROCESS

Reisha Perlmutter is a figurative artist known for her intricate and intimate depictions of the female body. Through her masterful technique, she creates hyper-realistic portrayals that evoke a powerful sense of physical presence. Her subjects, often captured in serene, aquatic settings, reflect a harmonious and nurturing relationship with nature, symbolising tranquility and integration.

As a woman in her thirties, Ponsonby reflects on how these conversations often center around themes of fertility and motherhood—discussions of egg-freezing, balancing careers with parenting, and the resilience of the female body.

Through her unique use of perspective and composition, Ponsonby amplifies the emotional impact of her work. She often adjusts the viewpoint, placing the viewer in the position of a bystander, transforming them into both observer and participant. “I want the viewer to feel as if they were sitting within the painting, comforted by the strength that vulnerability and shared experiences can bring,” she explains. Small details like a half-empty glass, an unoccupied chair, or foreshortened legs invite us to step into the scene and discover the extraordinary in the ordinary, revealing the beauty of often overlooked details that time and familiarity tend to numb.
