ABOUT ME

4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting Stolen Space Gallery, which featured the artist Diogo Machado, also known as “Add Fuel.”

MY PROCESS

Add Fuel is a Portuguese visual artist, Diogo Machado, who lives and works in Portugal. Starting out under the moniker Add Fuel to the Fire, Machado drew inspiration from sci-fi, video games, comics, and urban visual culture to create a distinctive visual universe populated by uniquely eccentric creatures.

‘SIMPLY SQUARES’

Add Fuel’s approach provides a fresh perspective on blending tradition with innovation, inviting audiences to explore a world where simplicity meets complexity and every square harbors a story waiting to be discovered.

  • In 2008, he shortened his moniker to Add Fuel and began to focus his work on tile design, examining traditional Portuguese azulejo tiles.
  • By reinterpreting these classic tin-glazed tiles, Diogo builds layered compositions to create a world filled with original motifs and characters brimming with emotion. His work spans drawing, painting, printing, murals, and ceramics, blending traditional tile design with contemporary visual references to prompt a dialogue between the classic and the contemporary.

  • “Simply Squares” encapsulates a profound reverence for tradition, seamlessly intertwined with a sensitivity to contemporary urban landscapes.

  • In this exhibition, Diogo aims to take viewers on a captivating journey through the intricate interplay of geometric shapes and patterns, with each square serving as a microcosm of artistic expression.

  • This approach offers a fresh perspective on the fusion of tradition and innovation, inviting audiences to delve into a world where simplicity converges with complexity and where every square harbours a story waiting to be unearthed.
