4me4you had the delightful opportunity to visit Gillian Jason Gallery, where the spotlight was on the renowned artist Christabel Blackburn - ‘Another Day of Sun’.

MY PROCESS

This collection captures Blackburn's fascination with California's sunlight and architecture, bringing her artistic practice to life. Through keen observation and a sensitively reduced visual language, she distills the essence of the LA landscape.

Through keen observation and a sensitively reduced visual language, she distills the essence of the LA landscape.

The vast Californian spaces in her paintings invite viewers on a meditative journey, akin to the feeling of being bathed in sunlight, as Blackburn describes it.

To prepare for this exhibition, she immersed herself in the setting, traveling to Los Angeles to sketch real-life scenes and capture fleeting moments through photography.

These raw observations were then transformed into canvases in her London studio, blending organic spontaneity with carefully choreographed scenes.

Influenced by her love for street photography and the works of artists like Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Blackburn masterfully integrates the interplay between figures and architecture, light and form, creating a harmonious balance within her paintings.
