Inspired by classic monsters, iconic antiheroes, serial killers and other morally ambiguous figures, the project explores our enduring fascination with characters who exist beyond the limits of conventional good and evil.
The subjects are unapologetically larger than life, confident, dramatic and completely at ease with their own allure. Often dressed in extravagant styles or holding an intense, unwavering gaze, they engage directly with the viewer, creating an intriguing tension between attraction, discomfort and playful provocation.
Influenced by art, cinema, fashion, history and dark romanticism, Max’s work is further shaped by the aesthetics of post-punk, synth-pop and industrial music. Themes of sexuality, performance and absurdity intertwine to produce imagery that is visually striking, emotionally charged and impossible to ignore.
Although the work explores darker themes, it is never without humour. A playful, self-aware edge runs throughout the project, preventing it from becoming overly serious and giving @adorable_bastards a distinctive identity that is as entertaining as it is memorable.
