MY PROCESS

Meet Vibeke Bertelsen also known as _udart_, an artist redefining Post-Human Identity Through AI...Vibeke Bertelsen transforms the generative errors of Artificial Intelligence into provocative explorations of post-human identity. Embracing algorithmic anomalies like distorted limbs, multiplying faces, and impossible anatomies, she turns these glitches into formal elements that reveal the stark way machines break down human form into mere data.

Working primarily with short digital videos and AI-generated images, Vibeke pushes the boundaries of the uncanny, navigating the fine line between human and machine vision.

Her distinctive aesthetic traces its roots to Copenhagen’s underground culture, where Vibeke first made a name for herself creating visuals for club nights. Today, she is an integral member of the renowned Vertigo Creative Studio in Copenhagen, where she collaborates closely with four fellow artists. In this creative hub, she develops her own visionary works while also contributing light and visual design to concerts and theater productions.

Whether she is transforming fingers into fluid dancing figures or crafting kaleidoscopic videos of overlapping faces, Vibeke embraces the unexpected outcomes that emerge from AI’s quirks. Rather than trying to “fix” these anomalies—like the strange hands and disjointed bodies often produced by AI—she leans into them, making these glitches her signature style. It’s a radical approach to art, one that celebrates imperfection as a new form of beauty.

Vibeke’s work is deeply influenced by both historical and contemporary movements in art. She finds inspiration in the surrealists and dadaists, whose challenges to conventional visual language mirror her own desire to disrupt the status quo. In this chaotic, algorithmically mediated world, her work channels the spirit of rebellion, questioning traditional notions of identity and body in the digital age.

“I’m not interested in imitating reality. I want to invent a parallel reality that is different from everyday life,” she states.

Through her distorted, overlapping figures, Vibeke invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between human flesh and digital algorithms. Her figures exist in perpetual states of becoming—never fully formed, never entirely dissolved—prompting a deeper reflection on the essence of self when reduced to data points and probabilities. In this exploration of bodily excess and multiplicity, Vibeke’s art challenges us to rethink who we are in an increasingly artificial world.
