4me4you recently visited the Saatchi Gallery in London to see States of Transition, a fascinating solo exhibition by London-based artist Perspicere, curated by BSMT Gallery.

Perspicere has developed a distinctive artistic style, creating remarkably lifelike portraits using nothing more than coloured thread and carefully positioned nails.

From the moment we stepped into the gallery, it was clear that this was an exhibition that rewarded both curiosity and patience.
- At first glance, the works appear almost photographic, but as you move closer, the illusion dissolves into thousands of individual strands woven together with incredible precision.
- It’s only by stepping back again that the portraits fully reveal themselves, making the act of viewing an essential part of the experience.
- The exhibition explores ideas of identity, perception, and the way we interpret the world around us. Fittingly, the name Perspicere comes from the Latin meaning “to see clearly” or “to see through,” yet the artist does the opposite of offering easy answers.
- Instead, his layered compositions invite viewers to question what they are seeing and to embrace the uncertainty between what is visible and what remains hidden.
- There is something almost ghostly about the portraits. Suspended within intricate webs of thread, the faces seem to emerge from the surface before quietly fading away again as your viewpoint changes.
