ABOUT ME

4me4you recently had the privilege of experiencing Hyle - Dark Light, the first solo exhibition by the Iranian artist Seyed Amin Bagheri at Ab-Anbar Gallery.

MY PROCESS

This mesmerising display immerses viewers in a world of striking contrasts, featuring twenty-five monumental graphite drawings suspended on cotton fabric. Bagheri’s larger-than-life figures loom enigmatically, enveloping the space with their ambiguous presence.

“Hyle - Dark Light“

  • The works in Hyle – Dark Light draw deeply from Persian mysticism, particularly the philosophical concept of the unity of opposites, as well as the eternal battle between Ahriman and Ahura.

In Bagheri’s art, the figures are neither wholly evil nor entirely benevolent; instead, they exist in a realm of ambiguity, evoking both strangeness and familiarity.

  • This blurring of boundaries creates an environment where the distinctions between self and other, beauty and monstrosity, begin to dissolve, inviting the viewer to reconsider deeply ingrained notions of duality.

Born in Rasht, Iran, in 1981, Seyed Amin Bagheri’s interdisciplinary approach is evident in his practice, which fuses literature, philosophy, and visual art. He studied painting at Azad University in Tehran, but his creative work spans various mediums.

While Bagheri embraces the flexibility of multimedia, drawing remains his core method of expression, a powerful tool for storytelling and conveying complex ideas.

In his work, Bagheri often challenges linear perspective, creating visual compositions that guide the viewer through labyrinthine forms.

Each image in his drawings functions like a word in an intricate sentence, inviting contemplation and reflection. This approach echoes the traditions of Arabic, Persian, and Indian art, where symbolism and fluidity of meaning take precedence over fixed interpretation.

Bagheri’s exhibition is not just a collection of artworks but a philosophical journey, offering a space where the viewer can explore the tension between opposites, the personal and the universal, and the tangible and the ethereal. Hyle – Dark Light is a compelling testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries and provoke thought.
