4me4you paid a visit to Yield Gallery to explore “She Who Dares”, a striking exhibition showcasing the bold and distinctive works of two of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists: Fern and Danielle Tomlinson.
“She Who Dares” brings together two distinct yet complementary visual languages. At its core, the exhibition explores strength, identity, and self-possession through the eyes of two women whose practices, while stylistically different, are united by emotional conviction and unapologetic creativity.
Fern’s works are rooted in bold feminist commentary and retro-inspired design. Her visual language draws inspiration from vintage book covers and classic noir aesthetics, echoing the sharp satire of artists like the Connor Brothers or Harland Miller. Through slogans such as “If My Mouth Doesn’t Say It, My Face Definitely Will” and “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, Fern challenges the viewer to reconsider gender expectations, confidence, and the performative nature of femininity.
Formerly a competitive swimmer for Great Britain, Tomlinson channels her discipline and passion into artworks that feel alive with motion, energy, and tenderness. Her debut collection features foxes, lions, and Highland cows painted in vibrant tones that pulse with vitality. Committed to animal conservation, Danielle is donating a portion of proceeds to The Big Cat Sanctuary.
