  • Edith Head’s journey into fashion was anything but conventional. After studying French and Art at the University of California, she initially taught these subjects before taking her first steps into the world of film. At the age of 26, Head found her true calling when she joined Paramount Pictures as a costume illustrator. A pivotal moment in her career came when she designed Mae West’s costume for Lady Lou (1933). From there, she began establishing herself as a force in the industry, eventually becoming one of the most prolific and revered costume designers in Hollywood.

She created signature designs like strapless necklines paired with voluminous skirts, epitomized by stars like Grace Kelly.
