4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting JD Malat Gallery which featured the artist Michael Muir.

MY PROCESS

This collection showcases Muir's unique visual language, marked by potent simplicity in composition, vibrant colours, and rich textures.

Starting with loose sketches, Muir exclusively uses a palette knife to apply oil paint, creating meticulously delineated yet richly textured surfaces. By reintroducing depth and detail into areas of flat colour, Muir emphasises the presence of light in his paintings to evoke feelings of nostalgia.

In a playful exploration of memory and reality, Muir skilfully navigates the dynamic tension between abstraction and figuration.
